Communal Participation Agreements
The Born To Shine Initiative Program is designed to create a courageous and loving environment for all participants to rise to their full potential in the vision for their lives and their life’s work.
In order to support this commitment, every member of the group must be willing to participate in fostering an open and welcoming community for their fellow leaders. The following agreements serve to provide important guidelines for your participation. Your adherence to the guidelines below is crucial to maintaining the level of trust and integrity for the entire group.
AGREEMENTS:
I. Confidentiality:
What happens in the circle stays in the circle. No matter what format we are working in, confidentiality around personal sharing is the cornerstone for building trust as a group. You and your fellow participants will share a special bond through the work that we do together, these bonds have the potential to last a lifetime. Honoring the sacredness of our circle and the confidential nature of what you, the presenters and other participants personally share is vital to your participation and theirs. It’s okay to share about your own experience and insights around the value you’ve received from the teaching and lessons, but please be mindful not to share any personal information unless permission has been granted. Please be especially mindful that your fellow participants are the gatekeepers of their own stories and do not assume what is shared within the circle has been shared outside of it. Each participant agrees to be attentive to potential violations and to speak up for the good of the group when they have concerns. For virtual groups, please join from a private area and use headphones when necessary. We would also like to remind you that everything shared in the circle would be subject to the nondisclosure provisions set forth in the Born to Shine Initiative Participant Agreement.
II. Contact outside this Program:
We recognize that a participant may know or recognize another participant from a personal or professional community, or that participants may have mutual acquaintances. Please help ensure a sense of safety and comfort by not sharing details of other participants’ personal information, or by sharing personal or professional experiences containing details that would identify any individual who may be known within your personal or professional community. Please respect the boundaries of the other participants and do not approach them outside this Program or share their participation in this Program without their consent. It is your choice to share your contact information and agree to connect with other participants outside this Program. If you are not comfortable with the presence of another participant in the circle, please reach out to the program manager.
III. Authenticity:
Just be you. There is nothing you need to do or “put on” in order to “fit in”. You’ve been selected to participate because of who you already are. Each of you brings something very special and unique to this group. Your willingness to just be you will enable all of the magic that already wants to happen. Authenticity also builds trust and a sense of safety that who each of you are - is more than enough.
IV. Vulnerability:
Honor what’s true for you and others. Respect what may be tender for you and others. Vulnerability will happen naturally when there is trust. Each of you agree to honor one another’s feelings, perspectives and journeys. Even as we do the work together, we ask for permission before we step in to support one another. We hold impeccable space for one another’s vulnerability.
V. Responsibility:
Take full responsibility for your experience. Commit to engaging fully in this Program and doing the work necessary to achieve your desired outcomes. If you have a question or concern, please direct them to the Program Manager and the Move The Crowd team. Let us help resolve any issue you may have within the bounds of this Program.
VI. Appreciation:
Respect and appreciate our differences. Each of you come from such diverse backgrounds from history and experience to age and culture. This is part of the strength of the group. These differences will lend themselves to such rich and diverse perspectives; this is the power of the Circle. Each participant agrees to honor and respect those differences and meet places of tension with genuine curiosity and respect.
VII. Courage:
Invite and challenge yourself to grow. Our intention is to create an environment that encourages your most authentic and aligned expression. We believe that courage shows itself in many forms. Courageous speaking, listening, acting and being are just a few examples. We honor and respect one another’s courage to grow in ways that may feel both scary and liberating at the same time.
VIII. Listening:
Listen deeply to understand yourself and others. In a world where most struggle to feel heard, we believe the intentional practice of deep listening is a crucial skill for any leader and worthy of developing. Each participant agrees to actively work to deepen and strengthen their own inner and outer listening skills.
IX. Acknowledgment:
Acknowledge your efforts and those of others. It takes real strength and courage to reach for greatness. Every effort you make towards your own success and liberation is worthy of recognition and celebration. Each participant agrees to acknowledge and encourage their own efforts and the efforts of others in the group.
Great relationships come from being the best possible stewards - caring for each other's most intimate opportunities and challenges. The deeper we are able to work, the greater the breakthroughs will be for everyone.
EXPECTATIONS:
I. Brand Ambassadorship:
Each of us represents our own respective brand as well as that of the Circle and the Move The Crowd. Each participant agrees to be the best ambassadors of those brands and to show up in ways that honor and respect the highest values and integrity of each brand in every interaction: with each other, with presenters, Experts in Residence, outside vendors and their respective staff. Each participant agrees to be mindful of their commitment to empower others in these interactions.
II. Selling/Enrolling:
We acknowledge that this Program is designed to support deep connection in ways that will naturally lead to additional business and opportunities either through direct transactions or referrals. Each participant agrees to refrain from overtly “selling” the group outside of the guidelines stipulated by the Move The Crowd team. This includes attempting to enroll the support of other members of the group in ways that feel overbearing and imposing. Asking for help is okay, however, each participant agrees to honor any and all boundaries and guidelines for solicitation set by the Move The Crowd or by any guests, presenters, and/or fellow participants.
III. Requests for Introductions:
We receive requests for introductions to high profile clients and associates all the time. Please be advised that introductions made by Move The Crowd outside of the Circle of this Program are not a guaranteed part of this Program. This Program sometimes includes access to a wide array of experts/influencers who work with Move The Crowd in various capacities. Please be advised that those introductions also follow very specific guidelines. As for introduction protocols, you agree to follow the guidelines and stipulations set forth by the Move The Crowd team as part of your program orientation. If participants offer introductions you are free to pursue them, however when asking other participants for introductions - please be mindful of the guidelines and stipulations set forth in these Communal Participation Agreements. When in doubt, speak to the Program Manager or a member of the Move The Crowd team or refer to the section on selling and enrolling.
IV. Code Of Conduct:
Please be considerate and respectful to all participants, speakers, employees, sponsors, volunteers, and service providers. We expect all our participants to refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior or speech, including any physical or verbal intimidation, inappropriate physical contact, unwelcome sexual attention (physical or verbal), photographing or recording of others without their consent, offensive language, racial, religious, or ethnic slurs, or other verbal or physical abuse. This Code of Conduct provides general guidelines, and we maintain full discretion in the interpretation and enforcement of an appropriate Code of Conduct. Participants asked to stop any behavior in violation of this Code of Conduct are expected to comply immediately. If you fail to comply, you may be immediately removed from this Program without any refund of registration fees. You may also be prohibited from attending any future events at our sole discretion.
If you have a complaint or concern about harassment, discrimination, bullying, or any other conduct which may violate this Code of Conduct, we encourage you to promptly notify the Move The Crowd team. You may request that your report remain confidential and only be shared with those on a “need to know” basis.
V. Acknowledgement of Past History:
We acknowledge participants entering this Program may know each other or refer to each other from other context and communities; our request is you leave negative interactions or past history at the door, and you enter this space with a clean slate. This includes but is not limited to not discussing negative past histories nor speaking negatively about any other participant in the circle, based on previous experiences. This also includes not divulging sensitive information about participants that you are privy to from previous environments. If there is an issue or concern, please bring it to the Program Manager’s attention immediately. Participants who engage in such behavior may be asked to leave this Program.
VI. Timely Completion Of Registration And Forms; Communication Protocol:
Please be sure to complete accurately and timely all registration forms and documents required to participate in this Program, including any intake and flight forms, otherwise we may not be able to guarantee your participation in this Program. We also request that you check your email, WhatsApp, and Course App regularly for program updates and community discussions which may require your timely responses.
VII. Program Survey & Debrief:
As part of your Program experience, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a debrief session about your experience and next steps. We request that you provide honest feedback with the intention of helping us improve the Program. In this session, we may also offer insights around your participation and make specific recommendations to strengthen your participation in future programs. Should you discover that you’d like additional support, during that process we can help you select the right option for you.
If you have any questions about anything contained in this Addendum, please reach out to our Program Manager at [email protected], and please cc: [email protected].
Conflict Resolution
When we commit to doing deep individual and collective work, we recognize the potential for conflicts to arise. Whether they are rooted in statements or actions, each member agrees to be proactive in working to resolve any conflicts that may arise with other members in the community. Rather than something to run from or avoid, we see conflict as a sacred opportunity to heal and grow. We recognize that many of us come from histories or backgrounds where conflict may have been avoided, suppressed or even erupted in violence. It is our hope that you will utilize this safe space to build greater capacity and trust to resolve any issue that may arise.
As a member of this community, you agree to the following protocols:
Step 1: Using the terms “Oops” or “Ouch” - to Allow yourself to acknowledge that an action or statement has had an adverse impact on you.
Step 2: Take a moment to breathe - connect with yourself FIRST and give yourself space to identify what’s been triggered or activated for you. Write, color, dance, draw, walk - do whatever supports you in being able to clear your mind, heart and spirit - so you can clearly identify what has occurred.
Step 3: If you determine that there is a conversation you want or need to have, reach out and touch your fellow community member(s) within 7 days of the occurrence and schedule a time to speak. Please also cc: our Program Manager - and simply make her aware that this is happening.
Step 4: Prior to the conversation - please take some time to prepare. Here are a few tips:
Review our Communal Agreements document - especially those that are read at the top of each gathering [hyperlink]. Take the time to ground in your commitment to exercise genuine curiosity, to lead with love and compassion. We strongly recommend that you review these agreements with your fellow community member(s) so that each of you can align with these agreements before the conversation begins.
Journal and reflect on what specifically came up for you. Identify the most important points or insights you want to raise - also set an intention for the conversation - what do you want to happen as a result?
Review the Oops/Ouch Framework [hyperlink] for navigating hard-to-have conversations. Consider sharing this with your sister in your email so you have shared language to reference during your talk. Beginning with ”ouch” this.
If you’d like additional support on how to approach the conversation, read the phenomenal work of Susan Scott. In her game changing book: Fierce Conversations she provides 7 Principles for having a Fierce Conversation - we live by these! :)
If you’d like to speak with a coach - reach out to our Program Manager and request to be connected. You will be provided with a link to schedule a 30-minute session with one of our Beloved Coaches.
Important: If you discover that you’d actually desire more support - you may be encouraged to activate a Premium Services package to support your work. The Program Manager can provide you with links and pricing as needed.
Step 5: Formats for Resolution:
One - on - One - Take the time to meet with your fellow community member, reaching out in accordance with Step 3, and using the tips provided in Step 4 - have the conversation, and/or
Mediated/Facilitated By A Coach - If you are unable to resolve a conflict with your fellow community member after a one-on-one meeting, or if you do not wish to have a one-on-one meeting, you may wish to consider mediation and/or facilitation by a Coach. We recommend you have an initial 30-minute consultation with a coach so that they can help you map out what may be necessary to support a successful mediation.
Important: If you opt to have a mediated conversation this would fall under the realm of Premium Services - the Program Manager can provide you with links and pricing as needed.
Step 6: Community Witnessing - We acknowledge that sometimes it can be very powerful to be witnessed in community - specifically when you may be working on a common challenge for the group. If you and your fellow community member(s) have a desire to share major insights and reflections in the interest of growing and evolving the community - please be in communication with the Program Manager about how to take advantage of this option.
Important: We strongly recommend that you and the fellow community member have done the work to align on a resolution whether through a One -on- One or Mediated format before bringing it before the larger group.
Step 7: Impeccable Follow Up & Follow Through - Please ensure that any promises or commitments that are made during your conversation are captured in writing. Communications should include: you, your fellow community member and the Program Manager as a CC. (If the information is sensitive and you prefer not to share the contents with us - please just send the Program Manager a quick note and confirm the conversation went well and you two have some next steps that you’ll both be working on.)
Step 8: Community Feedback - If there are any issues raised that feel important to bring to MTC and/or the larger community please be sure to be in communication with us. You can send an email outlining what you’d like us to pay attention to and we’ll follow up with you around the best protocol for sharing or implementing with the group.
